The Hiob Ludolf Centre for Ethiopian Studies at Universität Hamburg invites applications for a

PHD SCHOLARSHIP IN ETHIOPIAN STUDIES

within the new project funded by the Gerda Henkel Foundation, "Documenting an Ancient Education System in Africa: ʾAbənnät Təmhərt in Ethiopia" (https://www.aai.uni-hamburg.de/en/ethiostudies/research/abennat.html), beginning on 1 January 2020.

Art der Förderung

The scholarship amounts to the net sum of 1,600 per month. The scholarship shall be initially allocated for 1 year and is extendable for another year provided a positive evaluation of the midterm report.

Voraussetzungen

A degree in Ethiopian studies, Semitic studies, African studies, Theology, or other related discipline is a necessary requirement. The knowledge of Amharic and/or Ancient Ethiopic as well as relevant field research experience in Ethiopia are an advantage.
The University aims to increase the number of women in research and teaching and explic-itly encourages women to apply. Equally qualified female applicants will receive preference in accordance with the Hamburg act on gender equality.
It is expected that the research topic shall be in close connection with the project goals and the research plan compatible with the project schedule.
