Use of prior knowledge in CT reconstruction


The international Graduate School for Medical Engineering and Engineering Materials funded by the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESF) under the programme “Sachsen-Anhalt WISSENSCHAFT Internationalisierung" links up two cutting-edge research fields at the Otto von Guericke University (OVGU) Magdeburg in order to synergise Knowledge-based Medical Imaging and Reconstruction and Engineering Materials — Processing, Microstructure, Simulation, and Prediction.

Art der Förderung

EUR 2.250 monthly



  • holding a Master’s degree or equivalent in
    • (medical) engineering,
    • computer science,
    • physics, or
    • natural science
  • featuring advanced programming skills (MATLAB/Python and C/C++; with hands-on experience in GPU programming being advantageous!),
  • being familiar with medical imaging (with knowledge on computed tomography (CT) reconstruction being beneficial!), and
  • featuring English language skills adequate to communicate, give presentations, and publish scientific results


While ...

  • being keen on joining an interdisciplinary team of enthusiastic as well as goal-driven researchers and PhD students in the field of medical and materials engineering,
  • being seriously intended to successfully take their doctoral degree within 31 months / by no later than Apr-30, 2022 (end of the max. funding period) within the scope of a structured PhD program not least affording for/focusing on individual progression wrt
    • specialist knowledge,
    • technical know-how, and
    • scientific soft-skills
  • whereas not yet having submitted any M1-related application
