Doctoral scholarships in aerospace

The Technical University of Munich (Technische Universität München), the University of the German Armed Forces (Universität der Bundeswehr München), the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e. V.) and Bauhaus Luftfahrt e. V. (an incorporated association and aeronautics think tank) have joined forces to create a joint research, development and academic center, Munich Aerospace, for the purpose of pooling key competencies in the areas of aeronautics and space.

Munich Aerospace grants scholarships to support junior researchers (m/f) in conducting their doctoral research. The PhD projects will be conducted within joint research groups composed of scientists from at least two of our member institutions.

The scholarships are awarded for the following research topics:

  • Autonomous Flight
  • Safety in Orbit
  • Advanced Aerospace Communications & Navigation
  • Aviation Management

Art der Förderung

The scholarship consists of a grant of 1,575 € per month for three years. Recipients are entitled to enroll in the Munich Aerospace Graduate School. Additional funding for research, travel and living expenses can be granted in the amount of 6,100 € per year.

The scholarships are aimed at highly qualified university graduates, who have completed their studies in a programme applicable to aerospace and are now seeking a doctoral degree from the Technical University of Munich or the University of the German Armed Forces Munich.

Munich Aerospace aims to increase the percentage of female researchers within its network and explicitly encourages women to apply. Applicants with disabilities will be given preference if equally qualified.
